I have been involved in the television production industry since 1987. While learning the ropes of production when working as a one-man band for the U.S. Census Bureau, I had the opportunity to learn all aspects of production. I produced, directed, wrote, shot, and edited many shows during my tenure at the Bureau. This early “hard knocks” education has helped me considerably over the years. I have spent the last eight years as a freelance soundman on a variety of program styles from broadcast to corporate, as well as sports and live telecasts. . Learn more about my background from my resume.

So, why hire asylum sound & picture?
I’ve been there. I’ve produced, directed and operated cameras. I know what is expected.

Often, a camera operator will deal with the lighting, the audio, and sometimes even the directing! So it makes sense to hire a proper soundman for your shoot. This assures you quality audio, faster setups and wraps, and the peace of mind that your audio is recorded properly.

Not all microphones are created equal. . .
Even if they have names like Schoeps, Sennheiser, Neuman, TRAM, etc., microphones behave differently and should be used for different applications. Do you know the difference between omni-directional, cardioid, hyper-cardioid, PZM, boundary, and shotgun microphones? How about 48 volt phantom, "A-B" or "T" power? Do you know if your wireless will work in a different city? How do the new HDTV broadcasts affect your wireless system? asylum sound & picture can take care of these issues for you.
Not all meters are created equal either. . .
VU and Peak meters behave differently and show different information. Do you know which type are in your digital edit system? Are they different than the ones on your VTR? Do you know how to read them? Is your audio being recorded too hot or too low? Do you end up wrestling with the audio in post, instead of polishing your show?
This just in. . .
Need to record an event which uses more microphones than a small field mixer can handle? I have a Mackie 1402VLZ ready for the job. Got a bigger job? I can get whatever it takes to make your show sound right. Do you need audio tapes recorded on location so you can send them out for transcription later? asylum sound & picture can take care of that for you. Just give me the details, and it will get done.
Having the right tools to get good sound is a good start, but putting them in the hands of a professional will make a difference in your next production.
