Elvis 75-Good Rockin’ Tonight
Album Description
Here is a glittering collection fit for a king — in this case, the undisputed, Once and Future King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the birth of Elvis Aaron Presley, Elvis 75 – Good Rockin’ Tonight is the definitive retrospective, a remastered Hot 100 of Elvis classics in one beautifully-packaged four-CD boxed set. Spanning the breadth of Presley’s monumental, rags-to-riches career, Elvis 75 – Good Rockin’ Tonight presents an artist who exploded in the mid-1950s, when he shook up a buttoned-down world with his mold-breaking music, not to mention his sideburns, swiveling hips, flamboyant wardrobe, and raw sexuality. Until his death at 42 in 1977, he would move from rockabilly, rhythm and blues, bluegrass, and rock ‘n’ roll to country, pop, gospel, and even to light operatic fare to become one of the greatest and most-beloved entertainers the world has ever known. He would also sell several hundred million records. This defin… More >>

To mark what would have been the 75th anniversary of Elvis Presley, Sony Legacy released this 4-disc career-spanning survey that essentially serves two main purposes: for Elvis newbies it is by far the most sensible introduction to the man’s recorded legacy available, and for those who already own part or all of it, it is by far the best sounding compilation on the market (superb mastering, courtesy of Vic Anesini). Even die-hard fans who rightfully hesitate at investing in yet another Elvis greatest hits compilation they own already several times may want to give it a try, because this box proves a sonic treat from start to end. Included is an 80 page booklet with essay by New York Times and Rolling Stone critic Billy Altman, sessions details of each of the 100 tracks, and plenty of photos.

I bought this set for my Mother. This CD set could not be found in any music section of any store, e.g. Best Buy, Walmart, etc. But low and behold, I found it on Amazon.com and it was even 15 dollars cheaper than advertised in the stores. My Mother absolutely loves Elvis and due to the reason behind this CD set my mom is very happy with the set.

I’ll add my very positive vibes to what has been said to this point. My only quibble is the packaging which requires special accomodation for storage of this set, since normal jewel box cases are not included. But content is not to be missed even for the casual fan.

As an Elvis fan who has purchased Elvis music for well over 30 years this collection stands out from all others because of the pristine sound quality. Word is that Sony went back to the original master tapes and remastered the entire 711 masters released during Elvis’ life time from scratch. The results are simply outstanding, it’s like being right there in the studio with Elvis. I can’t recall having ever been drawn to the music as much as on this set, the sound is fresh and pure and exposes many nuances that have previously gone unnoticed. It’s such a pure joy and delight to listen to these masterpieces in the way they were meant to be listened to in the digital format. I think Sony should really be applauded for this great achievement and should follow up this teaser collection with a box set containing all of Elvis’ masters in one place as the definitive collection for any Elvis fan. The King deserves nothing less!
