Vampire Weekend
Product Description
This NY four-piece draw on their diverse backgrounds and interests, experimenting with African guitar music, the Western classical canon, hazy memories of Cape Cod summers, winters in upper Manhattan, and reggaeton. “Equal parts shruggy New York indie strumming and groovy Afro-pop, Vampire Weekend’s organ-and-drum runs highlight narratives about relationships, punctuation, and sometimes both” – Spin. Named “Hot New Kids” in Rolling Stone’s “Hot” issue. Vinyl contains MP3 coupon.Amazon.com
It would take a lot for Vampire Weekend’s debut to rise above the stench of privileged hype that surrounds it. A bunch of kids who formed the band in their Columbia dorm room borrow wholesale from Afrobeat and angular ’80s stuff, and they quickly become an online buzz band before releasing a single album? Thankfully the record, and the band, are great fun: playful, pop-wise, and smart enough to pull their shtick off with aplomb. Organ and drums are often the foc… More >>

I hated this album since the first and only play thru. Crappy music. I dont understand where the buzz came from for this band

This is the perfect fad CD that had its 15 minutes of fame and quickly withered and died. It never made it to the top 40 charts as there is very little or nothing of substance that may want anyone play it a second time. This is one of those CDs that stupid college kids buy (ha ha! – DOWNLOAD FROM A TORRENT SITE I mean!), when they think they’ve stumbled onto something “cool”. Regardless the origin, the music contained within is disposable and the main reason why there are so many copies for sale on Amazon for less than a buck each. Hey! Those college textbooks ain’t gonna buy themselves!

Vampire Weekend (VW) offer a stunningly solid and modest debut album. They spring some great melodies and harmonies on top of bouncing bass lines, grooving percussion, tastefully sparse guitar riffs, and impeccable keyboard work. If any fault is to be pointed out, it would be that the drumming falls a bit short at times in its sloppiness, but this in no way detracts from the overall greatness of the album. VW is a fresh injection into the indie music scene and have just released what will easily stand to be one of 2008’s best albums. Stand out tracks include 1) Mansard Roof, 2) A-Punk, 4) Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa, 5) M79, and 9) I Stand Corrected. Rating = 4.73 out of 5

This is STUPID MUSIC by well educated people. I can’t believe the press are touting this band the Next great Indie band. This CD sucks! This is just bad music that’s marketed very well. I wish I could give this disk 1/64th of a star but I can’t so here’s a one start review.
